Officials from Washington Baltimore Metropolitan-based Unified Moving Services say that moving can be exciting, but it can also be exhausting or even dangerous.
Online PR News – 22-June-2015 – Moving is an exciting experience, but it can be exhausting or even dangerous unless certain common-sense guidelines are followed, says Gary Stone, president of Unified Moving Services (http://www.unifiedmovingservices.com), a Maryland-based full-service moving company that specializes in both residential and commercial moves in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. Whether moving across town, or making a move across the country, it is important to take the necessary precautions that will ensure that everyone involved in the move will stay healthy and safe.
Stone offers the following tips to stay healthy and safe when preparing to make a move:
Safe Moving Tip #1 Get Some Rest
Proper rest is essential for a successful move, according to Stone.
With long hours devoted to packing, one can easily miss out on much needed rest, which will strain a persons overall health ahead of the move, he explains. As soon as you have made the decision to move, start packing a little each day, so that you wont have to pack everything in one night or over the course of a few days.
Stone says that packing early also allows an individual to pack more carefully, as opposed to rushing through wrapping and packaging. By getting plenty of rest, a person will be well rested for any long drives, keeping you safe and alert if your journey takes you across several miles.
Safe Moving Tip #2 Eat Well
Eating a good, balanced diet is important when moving, Stone explains, because of the energy we get from healthy eating.
Moving can be strenuous, and healthy eating habits are a great way to provide the extra strength need for the move, he says. Staying hydrated is equally important, and drinking plenty of water will help you to maintain energy levels as well.
Safe Moving Tip #3 Dress Appropriately
Stone says that, depending on the time of year that you move, you will be faced with various types of weather conditions.
When moving during the summer, be sure to dress in cool clothes and protect your skin from extended exposure to the sun, Stone says. When moving during the cold winter months, be sure to bundle up and protect your skin from exposure to frigid, cold temperatures.
Stone also suggests wearing shoes with good, solid traction, in all seasons and weather conditions, to avoid slips and falls while moving.
Safe Moving Tip #4 Give Yourself a Break
Taking a break is always a good idea when moving, Stone says. Breaks give your body rest, to refuel for the next phase of your move.
Moving time constraints can tend to push people beyond the limits to which their bodies can go, he explains, noting that knowing when to take breaks will prevent unnecessary exhaustion.
Safe Moving Tip #5 Lift Carefully
Stone says that careful lifting is important during a move, because it will reduce the potential for bodily harm.
Never lift anything that is too heavy, all by yourself, and make sure you always watch where you are going, he says. There is nothing worse than trying to move, injuring yourself, and then being down for weeks in recovery, unable to get settled into your new place.
Stone suggests enlisting help during the move, so that you will not have to lift any heavy items by yourself, risking injury.
